Using Flash in Your Website
So you want to add flash banners to your website? Well it really isn’t as complicated as you may think. If you don’t already have a flash file, then search for a free one in any internet search engine. Just type in “free flash banner” and you should find one relatively quickly. The file that you will be using will have the extension *.swf.
Now upload the choosen *.swf file onto your file server, preferably into a directory that is relative to your webpage. Note the URL location of this file.
Next, you will copy and paste the following code into your webpage:
PLUGINSPAGE=”http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash”>
Finally, you replace the “flash.swf” part of your code with the URL of your newly uploaded *.swf file. After uploading your webpage, just refresh your screen and your splash banner
should appear in your browser.
Please Note:
You won’t likely see the splash banner through your html editor, but it will appear after you have published the webpage. You must also have the software installed in your web browser for flash to work. If you are having difficulty, please visit http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/ to make sure that you have installed the current Flash Player.
Also Important:
Note that there are width, and height attributes within the original code that we are using. You may adjust those attributes, currently at: width=1024, and height=240, to suit the needs of your flash banner. Another attribute that you can change is the background colour, which is currently set at: BGCOLOR=#000000, or Black.
Adding flash code to your website can be easy if your browser is configured right, and you have placed the correct URL to the actual *.swf, or flash file, where shown. Just remember to go in between the “parentheses.swf” with the file you are choosing to display on your webpage.
Hopefully you have created a flash banner that will animate accordingly, in browsers all across the world. One last recommendation: Check your finished product in more than one browser, to assure correct display. If you are unsure about doing this yourself then you could hire a professional website design company to do it for you.
